sgamet – Unravel developer hooks up with Electronic Arts

Coldwood Interactive — whose first game, Unravel, combined physics puzzle platforming with a cutesy yarn totally-not-a-demon named Yarny — has signed a new publishing agreement with Electronic Arts, the company announced today.

EA, which previously brought Unravel to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, did not indicate whether Coldwood’s next project would be a follow-up to Yarny’s wooly adventures or something new altogether.

We could not be more excited to continue working with [Unravel director] Martin Sahlin and the great team at Coldwood, and to see the next adventure they bring to life,” Patrick Söderlund, executive vice president of EA Studios, said in the announcement. For some reason, Sahlin’s first name is italicized in the press release. “At EA, we love working with creative and passionate development teams, in our own studios and our partners. Which is why I’m very pleased to announce that we’ve signed a new agreement with Coldwood to work with them on their next project.”

It’s probably a coincidence, but Electronic Arts did publish a game a few years ago adapted from Dante’s Inferno. We’re not suggesting EA is cribbing ideas from Laura’s fanfic now or anything, but well… it wouldn’t be the strangest thing we heard today.

EDIT (6:01PM): An EA representative has confirmed to Polygon that Coldwood’s next project is indeed “the next Unravel.”
