Who wasn’t expecting this really? It hit 7:00 AM GMT, the time when the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Heavensward pre-orders went live on the Square Enix store, and unsurprisingly the website is now displaying a “database error” message after briefly being available with the preorder. The message then changed to the now-familiar “system maintenance” message. It appears that even staggering the release of all of the different editions could not prevent the website from being overloaded by eager fans trying to purchase the Collector’s Edition.
With any luck, the issue is just the sheer amount of people trying to access the site and hopefully we won’t see the same amount of downtime that we saw the other day. Were you able to pre-order your Collector’s Edition before the website went down? Let us know in the comments below.
Square Enix has addressed the issue on Twitter, stating “The website is experiencing extreme load right now. Hang tight, we’re on the case and will let you know more asap!“. However, this hasn’t appeased many fans who are desperately trying to pre-order, many of whom have taken to Twitter to complain. After many fans who reached the payment stage asked if their transactions were successful, Square Enix also clarified that “your order on the Store was only successful if you received an email confirmation.”
The physical Collector’s Edition will include the game, a dragon statue, an art book, a blu-ray disc that will contain all 2.55 cut-scenes as well as previous trailers that have been released, all encased in a beautiful box that features artwork by Yoshitaka Amano. Additionally, the Collector’s Edition includes in-game items such as the Flying Griffin mount, a Wind-up Kain minion, a bottle of Fantasia, and a Baron helm, modelled after Cecil’s helm from Final Fantasy IV.
Heavensward is due to release on June 23, 2015. Those who pre-order will be able to access the game early on June 19, 2015, as well as receiving the Baron Circlet and Earrings, as well as the Black Chocobo Courier minion.
